In 2023, Welspun India aligned its efforts with the worldwide theme of #BeatPlasticPollution, emphasizing the urgent need to tackle the detrimental effects of plastic on our planet. The company recognized the significant role that plastic pollution played in environmental degradation and took proactive measures to combat this global issue.

As a global home textiles company, the best towel brand in India was committed to minimizing its ecological footprint and promoting sustainable practices throughout its operations. The company recognized the importance of reducing plastic waste and implemented various initiatives to address the issue.

Restoring Ecosystems as a Cornerstone

The restoration of ecosystems lies at the heart of their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts.

Recognizing the importance of water conservation, the company implemented a unique water management project in Anjar, which involved the establishment of a sewage treatment plant (STP). Through this initiative, Welspun India ensured that no drop of fresh water was used in its production processes.

They collaborated closely with local municipal bodies to highlight the community benefits of the project, such as scientific sewage treatment, availability of fresh water for drinking and agriculture, and the prevention of untreated waste discharge into marine areas.

Transitioning to Renewable Energy

Welspun India actively moved away from fossil-based energy sources and embraced renewable energy alternatives. By adding biomass, such as wood briquettes and rice husk, to replace coal for power generation, They reduced their carbon footprint. This approach not only helped in waste management but also contributed to the preservation of natural resources.

Empowering Farmers and Sustainable Cotton Production

By understanding the importance of supporting local communities the company promoted sustainable agricultural practices. Through their efforts, they empowered over 16,500 farmers across more than 431 villages in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana. These farmers successfully produced over 20,000 metric tonnes of sustainable cotton, aligning with Welspun India's goal to obtain 100 percent cotton by 2030.

Progress and Future Goals

They have made remarkable strides toward sustainability. In FY22, it successfully procured 45% of sustainable cotton for its operations. Looking ahead, they are aiming to procure 100% sustainable cotton by 2030, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to a more sustainable future.
